The Tradition of Chimney Sweeps: Our Code of Ethics & Commitment to Excellence

Chimney sweeping is more than just a trade—it’s a profession rooted in safety, trust, and expertise. At Chimney Clean Company, we uphold the time-honored values of this profession, ensuring that every service we provide meets the highest industry standards.

As proud members of the Golden State Chimney Guild, we adhere to a strict Code of Ethics that defines our commitment to our customers, our community, and our craft. In an industry where scammers and low-quality services have become common, our ethical approach sets us apart as trusted professionals dedicated to keeping your home safe.

OUR CODE OF ETHICS & COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE :-

1. Safety & Education Come First

We take full responsibility for educating our customers and the general public about the safe use, installation, and maintenance of solid fuel heating appliances. A well-maintained chimney is essential for preventing fire hazards and carbon monoxide poisoning, and we ensure that every client understands the importance of proper care.

2. Professionalism & Transparency

Our technicians are well-trained, well-informed, and committed to professional integrity. If we ever encounter an issue where we are unsure of the best course of action, we admit it openly and take the necessary steps to find the right solution. Honesty builds trust, and we value the trust our customers place in us.

3. Fair Business Practices—No Deceptive Tactics

Unlike many competitors, we never engage in dishonest marketing practices. We do not criticize or unfairly compare our services to others just to make ourselves look better. Our reputation is built on quality, not deception, and we believe that outstanding service speaks for itself.

4. Precision & Accuracy in Every Job

When we sweep, inspect, or repair a chimney, we do so with precision and attention to detail. If we claim a job is done, it is done completely and correctly—no shortcuts, no hidden issues, and no unfinished work.

5. Full Liability Insurance for Protection & Peace of Mind

We strongly endorse the use of liability insurance to protect our clients, our employees, and our business. Homeowners can rest assured that when they choose Chimney Clean Company, they are working with a fully insured and responsible service provider.

6. Upholding Professionalism & Honesty in the Industry

We are dedicated to these principles, confident that in the free marketplace, honesty and professionalism always prevail. Our commitment to ethical service ensures that homeowners receive the best care, the highest-quality work, and the safest solutions for their chimneys.

Beware of Scammers & Low-Cost Imitators

Recently, many unverified chimney service providers have entered the market, luring customers with cheap pricing and misleading offers. These companies often advertise a $69 inspection only to dramatically increase their prices once on-site. Many are not properly trained or certified, putting your home and safety at risk.

As a member of the Golden State Chimney Guild, Chimney Clean Company is fully licensed, insured, and committed to industry standards. When you choose us, you are choosing a professional team that values honesty, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Choose Trust. Choose Safety. Choose Chimney Clean Company.

Smoking back

There are many fireplaces that seem to smoke back into the house no matter what is done. In our experience, the most common cause is that the fireplace simply needs to be cleaned. This is especially likely if the fireplace has gotten worse over time, that is, the smoking back is worse now than it used to be.

Several other possible causes of smoking back are problems with the damper, chimney cap, grate, firewood, or structural problems with the chimney itself. At Chimney Clean Company, we do a full inspection with every cleaning, or we can also do just the inspection if the chimney doesn’t need to be cleaned. This inspection is designed to reveal any causes of smoking back.

Broken chimneys

In the Bay Area, many chimneys were broken in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Usually, these chimneys are broken at or near the roof line, although sometimes they can be broken further down, even at the ground level.

We are fully licensed masonry contractors. We rebuild broken chimneys. If they are broken at the roof line, this usually entails taking the chimney part of the way down brick by brick, installing steel reinforcing bars, getting an inspection from a city inspector, then rebuilding the chimney back up around the steel rebar.

Missing mortar or damaged bricks

Over time, many chimneys develop places that are missing mortar between bricks, or damaged bricks, either inside the firebox or on the outside of the chimney. These areas can usually be repaired, either by replacing the missing mortar or replacing the bricks themselves. Items such as these can be dangerous because they can allow flames, sparks or hot gases to enter the structure of the house.

Water entry

Sometimes the metal that seals the chimney at the roof, called “flashing”, will come loose or develop leaks. In this case, water sometimes comes into the ceiling of the room and causes water spots and stains on the sheet rock. This flashing should be repaired before the water causes more damage.
